Established in Tokyo in 1946, Watanabe Bookbinding brings decades of specialist bookbinding knowledge to its notebooks, combining traditional craftsmanship with precise modern production. The Seven Seas BUNCO features carefully constructed lay-flat binding, allowing its substantial number of pages to open comfortably for writing.

The name “BUNCO” comes from bunkobon, the familiar small-format paperback books found throughout Japan. Typically around A6 in size, bunkobon are designed to be compact, portable and comfortable to hold. Watanabe takes this distinctly Japanese book format and reimagines it as a beautifully made notebook for everyday writing.

Finished with a tactile bookcloth cover and delicate gold detailing, the Seven Seas BUNCO is available in warm yellow.

THE COMPANY 

Watanabe Bookbinding is a Tokyo-based company with three generations of bookbinding experience. The factory is engaged in the daily production of academic books, museum catalogues, and premium notebooks, all of which require a high degree of precision in bookbinding. Dictionaries and academic books open seamlessly, remaining strong even after heavy use, and holding together for a lifetime. Since 2016, Watanabe has been designing, manufacturing, and selling paper products as well, mainly notebooks, which are bound with the same great bookbinding technology.
