Tajima Glass – The Art of Edo Glass
Founded in Tokyo in 1956, Tajima Glass (田島硝子) is one of Japan’s respected makers of traditional handmade glassware. Based in Edogawa, Tokyo, the company has spent almost seven decades preserving and developing the techniques of Edo Glass (Edo Glass / 江戸硝子) — a distinctive form of Japanese glassmaking whose origins can be traced back to the Edo period.
Tajima Glass was founded by Matsutaro Tajima as Tajima Glass Works in 1956 and became Tajima Glass Co., Ltd. the following year. The company established its own factory in Matsue, Edogawa, in 1962, where it continues to produce glassware today. Over the decades, the company has remained committed to combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design and manufacturing techniques.
