      The Art of Kintsugi

Based in Kyoto, POJ Studio is dedicated to bringing Japan’s traditional crafts and the stories of its artisans into contemporary life. Their philosophy is rooted in a respect for craftsmanship, materials and the beauty of objects that carry a history.

At the heart of POJ Studio is Kintsugi — the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with urushi lacquer and highlighting the repaired joinery with gold. Rather than concealing damage, Kintsugi embraces it, transforming cracks and breaks into part of an object's story.

POJ Studio’s Kintsugi Kit brings this centuries-old craft into the home, providing the traditional materials and tools needed to repair chipped or broken tableware, together with access to guided instructional classes. Developed in collaboration with Tsutsumi Asakichi Urushi Shop, a family-run Kyoto urushi specialist established in 1905, the kit offers an authentic introduction to this deeply considered Japanese craft.

For Setamono, the Kintsugi Kit represents something particularly meaningful: the Japanese belief that an object does not become less beautiful because it has been broken — its story simply becomes more visible.
