Maruyama Natural Tea Towel – Persimmon

Beautifully understated and exceptionally practical, the Maruyama Natural Tea Towel – Persimmon brings together generations of Japanese textile craftsmanship and the traditional qualities of kakishibu, or Japanese persimmon tannin.

Woven in Maruyama’s distinctive layered kaya fabric, developed from the open weave traditionally used for Japanese mosquito netting, the towel is highly absorbent, breathable and quick-drying. Initially crisp, the fabric becomes wonderfully soft and supple with washing and continued use, while retaining its remarkable durability.

The Persimmon version incorporates kakishibu, a traditional Japanese tannin derived from the fermented juice of young, unripe persimmons. Used in Japan for centuries to treat textiles, paper, wood and other everyday objects, kakishibu is valued for its natural functional qualities and its deep connection to traditional Japanese craft.

At 35 × 70 cm, its generous proportions make it ideal for drying dishes and delicate glassware, handling larger cookware, drying hands or keeping beside the sink. Its warm, earthy character and beautifully textured weave bring a subtle sense of Japanese craftsmanship to the everyday kitchen.

Care: Wash before first use to remove the starch used during production and reveal the characteristic softness and absorbency of the fabric. Hand or machine wash using a mild detergent. Avoid bleach and fabric softener. Rinse thoroughly, reshape and air dry. Do not tumble dry. Some shrinkage after washing is a natural characteristic of the fabric.
