A celebrated icon of contemporary Japanese glassware design, the Crumple Old Fashioned Glass by Kimura Glass Company combines sculptural artistry with exceptional functionality. Designed by renowned Japanese designer Makoto Komatsu, this distinctive handmade whisky glass transforms the appearance of softly crumpled paper into elegant hand-held form.
First introduced in 1980, the Crumple series has become one of the most recognisable pieces in Japanese barware design and is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
Product Description
At first glance, the Crumple Old Fashioned Glass appears intentionally irregular - its gently distorted silhouette resembling folded or crushed paper captured in transparent glass. Yet this unconventional form is precisely what gives the piece its remarkable comfort and tactile appeal.
Crafted from soda-lime glass, each facet catches and reflects light differently, enhancing the colour and movement of whisky, cocktails, or spirits served within. The textured contours fit naturally into the hand, creating an unexpectedly ergonomic grip that feels secure and balanced while drinking.
Both sculptural and functional, the glass elevates the ritual of enjoying fine spirits. Whether used for whisky on the rocks, an Old Fashioned cocktail, or simply sparkling water, it brings refined Japanese design sensibility to everyday moments.
The Crumple Old Fashioned Glass is carefully presented in a simple card box suitable for wrapping and its protective packaging helps safeguard the delicate handmade glass during storage and transport.
NB: As each glass is individually crafted, slight variations, tiny bubbles, or subtle irregularities may occur and are considered part of the character of handmade Japanese glassware.
