Bring the authentic taste of Japanese cuisine to your garden with premium Oroshi Wasabi Seedlings. True Japanese wasabi (Eutrema japonicum) is famous for its crisp, fiery kick and herbal sweetness. These starter plants allow you to cultivate this rare culinary treasure right at home.
Why Choose Oroshi Wasabi Seedlings?
  • Purchased in sets of 2 plants to ensure optimal growth success and cross-pollination potential.
  • Authentic Flavor: Yields genuine Japanese wasabi, entirely different from common supermarket imitation horseradish pastes.
  • Premium Quality: Healthy, well-rooted seedlings ready for transition into your home garden or container setup.

What are Oroshi Wasabi Plants?
Oroshi wasabi refers to the authentic green wasabi plant highly prized in traditional Japanese gastronomy. The word "Oroshi" translates to "grated," referencing the traditional method of preparation.
Unlike standard garden vegetables, wasabi is a semi-aquatic perennial plant native to cool, shaded mountain stream beds in Japan. It thrives in high humidity, wet but well-drained soil, and complete shade, making it a rewarding challenge for dedicated gardeners.

Culinary Uses & Benefits
Every single part of the Oroshi wasabi plant is edible and packed with unique, vibrant flavors:
  • The Rhizome (Stem): The primary prize of the plant. Grate it using a traditional sharkskin or fine metal grater to create fresh wasabi paste for sushi, sashimi, and noodle dishes.
  • The Leaves and Leaf Stems (Petioles): Crunchier and milder than the root. Use them raw in salads, flash-fry them into tempura, or pickle them in soy sauce to make a popular Japanese treat called Wasabi Zuke.
  • The Flowers: Delicate white blossoms appear in spring. Use them as an elegant, edible garnish with a subtle, peppery bite.

Care Instructions
Although Wasabi Japonica plants require attention – sometimes too much care can be detrimental to their health.
Once you receive your plants – please place them into pots with a mix of 50 % potting soil and 50 % perlite preferably – and ensure the mix has been thoroughly soaked before planting. This will assist the plants to revive themselves after traveling. If you are not able to plant out immediately – please place the plants in your fridge overnight.
The plants can have their roots placed in water as well so they can stay hydrated. The fridge at around 6 degrees Celcius will not harm the plants. Smaller plants can be planted in pots/bags of around 1 – 3 litre size and transplanted once the roots get larger. Larger plants can go into a 20 litre pot/bag.
A detailed care instructions will be included with each purchase to ensure a seemless replanting, harvesting.  The smaller plants and even smaller stems attached to the main stem can be replanted and will grow again.
