Product Information & Features

Crafted with simplicity and performance in mind, the Benriner No. 64 Japanese Mandoline embodies the philosophy that good kitchen tools make better cooking. Made in Japan with durable materials and a thoughtful ergonomic design, this mandolin is a favourite among culinary enthusiasts and professional chefs alike.

  • Precision-crafted Japanese stainless steel blades: Hand-finished for sharpness and longevity, these blades slice with remarkable ease, giving you clean, uniform cuts every time.

  • Adjustable thickness: A simple dial allows you to control slice thickness from ultra-thin (perfect for chips or salads) to thicker cuts for heartier dishes.

  • Versatile interchangeable blades: Includes straight slicing, medium julienne, and coarse julienne options so you can create a variety of cuts for salads, garnishes, or stir-fries.

  • Comfortable ergonomic design: A large, open handle ensures a secure, comfortable grip, while the non-skid rubber base keeps the mandoline stable on countertops or over bowls.

  • Safety guard included: Protects your fingers during slicing and helps you work confidently and securely.

  • Easy cleaning: Disassembles for cleaning, and although it’s top-rack dishwasher safe on many variations, gentle hand washing is recommended to preserve blade life.

Dimensions & Contents

This Japanese mandoline is thoughtfully sized for everyday use in busy kitchens:

  • Overall dimensions: Approximately 32 × 12 × 4cm

  • Weight: Around 0.42 kg, light enough to handle comfortably yet sturdy in use.

  • Included in the set:
    • Mandoline body with non-skid base
    • Three interchangeable stainless steel blades (fine, medium, coarse)
    • Finger guard / safety pusher
    • Thickness adjustment dial for custom slicing

Care Instructions

To ensure your Benriner No. 64 Mandoline remains a reliable kitchen utencil:

  • Hand wash recommended: Wash blades and main body gently with warm, soapy water after each use to preserve sharpness and prevent corrosion.

  • Dry thoroughly: Always dry all parts completely before storage - moisture can dull blades and affect plastic components over time.

  • Blade safety: Handle blades with care; stainless steel edges are extremely sharp and designed to deliver precision cuts.

  • Dishwasher caution: While some sellers indicate top-rack dishwasher safety for certain variants, hand washing is generally best practice for long blade life.

History of the Brand — Benriner

The name Benriner stands for a heritage of practical ingenuity. Rooted in Japan’s rich tradition of kitchen tool craftsmanship, the brand traces its origins back to the early 1940s when inventor Uyuki Yamamoto conceived his first handheld radish slicer in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. This humble mandoline-style slicer proved so effective that by 1945, the company was formally established as Benriner Co., Ltd., its name inspired by the Japanese adjective “benri-na” meaning handy or convenient.

Over the decades, Benriner evolved from simple wooden tools to today’s precision kitchen mandolines - combining ultra-sharp handcrafted steel blades with durable, food-safe materials and ergonomic design. More than 70 years on, Benriner slicers are recognised globally in both professional kitchens and home cooking environments for outstanding reliability, versatility, and performance.
